KellyITS Mobile Web Technology
What KellyITS Mobile Web Technology Can Do
Mobile devices that access the web vastly outnumber “regular” computers these days. The chances that your web site will be viewed from a mobile device are greater than ever, so KellyITS has developed1 mobile web software and includes it as a standard feature. Some key functionality:- First and foremost: valid2, optimized mobile web output. Our programs output content specifically formatted for the mobile web that requires minimal bandwidth and system resources for fast loading times and easy navigation.
- Specific Platform Recognition Since there is such a huge disparity between the capabilities of mobile devices, content output is based on the individual device3. From basic text-only rendering to more complex layouts for Apple, Android, Blackberry, Windows Mobile and more.
- Completely automated, from your main domain. Unlike most “off-the-shelf” mobile solutions, your visitors don’t have to go to a separate subdomain or entirely different site to access your mobile content. The use of a mobile device is detected and content displayed automatically simply by visiting your main domain.4
KellyITS Mobile BASIC
Since the use of mobile devices is so prominent, sites designed and hosted by KellyITS include our Mobile Basic package. This ensures that if your site is accessed via a mobile device, the visitor will not just be presented with your main site5. KellyITS Mobile Basic will display your basic site and contact information, optimized and formatted for the mobile web.Beyond Basic...
Of course, your site can output mobile content that extends beyond basic site and contact information6. For example, if you have a web site for your restaurant, the entire menu could be made available to mobile devices.

The Mobile Web vs. The “Regular” Web
This concept of often difficult to explain in concrete terms, as they are both the same and very different. It’s sort of like having a highway with different lanes for specific traffic: a lane for high-occupancy buses (the regular web) and a lane for much smaller single-passenger scooters (the mobile web). Both lanes are part of the same highway (the web). The efficiency problem is that you can’t guarantee that the different vehicles will always use their respective lanes. Why We Have Both (and not just one or the other)
Originally, the web was designed to be accessed from regular computers (desktops and laptops). This worked just fine because although there are of course some differences, the regular computers all had similar screen sizes, processing and bandwidth capabilites and tactile input. As mobile devices for accessing the web became prominent, it became clear that web sites designed for regular computers didn’t work so well on the smaller scale. To further complicate things, the capabilities of the mobile devices themselves were radically different from each other.Without the Mobile Web, mobile devices would only be able to display a portion of your main site or perhaps display nothing at all. On the other hand, having ONLY mobile output would look pretty silly when a full-size computer is used to visit your site.
1KellyITS Mobile Technology has been developed completely in-house. We do not use third-party mobile content generators or require that your
visitors be directed to a third-party site to view your mobile content. There are literally thousands of mobile platforms and our software is 99%
accurate in detecting and displaying the appropriate format.
2The coding requirements for the mobile web are NOT the same as they are for the regular web. KellyITS Mobile Web Technology outputs content that is XHTML Mobile/.mobi compliant and valid.
3KellyITS Mobile not only detects the use of a mobile device, but determines appropriately formatted output based on what kind of mobile device is being utilized by the visitor.
4The logic is that visitors would initially prefer optimized content for their mobile device so minimal bandwidth usage is required. Visitors have the option to load the full site if they prefer. Conversely, mobile output is also available to standard desktop and laptop computers.
5This is important because your full main site will almost certainly NOT display as intended when viewed on a mobile device. Also, even if your main site is very simple, the bandwidth required by your visitor is much greater and will take longer to load and cost them more data usage.
6At this point, the majority of visitors that use mobile devices are looking for quick, easy to access basic information (like business hours, phone numbers or specials). The decision to include more complex mobile content should be based on relevant functionality.
